Single Room Heat Recovery Unit Installation in Dublin

A single room heat recovery unit ventilates one room through an outside wall, taking out damp, stale air and bringing in fresh air while keeping most of the heat. It is the answer for a bedroom with condensation, a bathroom with no duct route, an apartment or an extension, without the ductwork of a whole house system. We install them across Dublin and Leinster. Send us a photo of the room with your Eircode and we email a free preliminary quote.

When a Single Room Unit Is the Right Choice

A single room heat recovery unit, sometimes called single room MVHR or decentralised MVHR, does in one room what a whole house MVHR system does for the whole home. It suits:

  • One or two problem rooms: a bedroom on a cold outside wall with condensation every morning, or a bathroom that never dries.
  • Homes with no route for ducts: where running ducts through the attic and ceilings to every room is not practical.
  • Apartments: where there is an outside wall to the room but no attic or plant space.
  • Extensions and attic conversions: new rooms added to an older house.

If the whole house is damp, or you are building new, a whole house MVHR system is usually the better answer, and we tell you honestly which suits your home. Our page on ventilation installation compares the systems side by side.

How a Single Room Heat Recovery Unit Works

The unit sits in a round opening through the outside wall, with a slim cover on the inside and a grille on the outside. Inside it, a fan and a heat exchanging core move air in and out of the room.

  • Out: warm, moist air from the room passes through the core on its way outside, and the core keeps much of the heat.
  • In: fresh outside air is filtered and warmed by the core on its way in.
  • Continuous: it runs quietly all day, so the moisture from showers, cooking, drying clothes and sleeping leaves the room before it can condense on cold walls and windows.

Many units can be controlled by schedule or from a phone, and they need little looking after beyond regular filter cleaning.

Steps We Take to

What It Costs and What to Expect

The price depends on the number of rooms, the wall construction and the unit chosen, so we quote after seeing a photo of each room. For a single damp room, a single room unit usually costs far less than a whole house system; if several rooms need it, we compare both options in the quote so you can decide. Whole house MVHR starts from €5,500 installed for a home up to 100 square metres.

Expect drier windows within days of the unit running continuously, and no new condensation on the walls of that room. Existing mould still has to be treated; our mould removal service deals with the growth, and the unit stops it coming back.

We hold NZEB Ventilation Certification, all our staff hold valid Safe Pass certification, and we work with SEAI-registered One Stop Shop providers on whole-house retrofit projects.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Are single room heat recovery units worth it?

Yes, for one or two rooms with condensation or mould, or where whole house ducting is not practical. They ventilate the room continuously while keeping much of the heat, which is why they work better in an Irish winter than an open window. For a damp whole house, whole house MVHR is usually the better value.

How much does a single room MVHR unit cost?

It depends on the room, the wall and the unit, so we quote after seeing a photo of each room. Send us the photos with your Eircode and we email a free preliminary quote.

What are the downsides of a single room heat recovery unit?

It needs an opening through an outside wall, it ventilates only the room it is in, and the filter needs cleaning regularly. For several damp rooms, a whole house system can work out better.

Can a single room unit stop condensation in a bedroom?

In most cases, yes. Running continuously, it removes the moisture from breathing and drying clothes before it condenses on the cold wall and window. If mould has already grown, it needs to be treated as well.

Can you fit one in an apartment?

Yes, where the room has an outside wall. In an apartment building the management company may need to approve the opening and the outside grille, so it is worth asking them first.

Which areas do you cover?

We install single room heat recovery units throughout Dublin and the Leinster area.
